Teaching Resources

These links take you to the PITA Early Career Wiki. The Start UP! Program was begun by Ray when he was President of PITA in 2008. Ray maintains this site and we have been posting the resources from our workshops on the site since then.

Other useful sites for early career teachers:

Mentoring BC -a UBC & BCTF project funded by the Ministry, but funding may end in Dec 2016.

PSAs- There are 33 PSAsF These are groups of teachers, like the music teachers, working together on professional development. Most are secondary focused, but for new elementary classroom teachers the three key ones are:

  1.    Provincial Intermediate Teachers Assoc. www.pita.ca They now use: myPITA, to include middle years  myPITA provided the major funding for the Start UP!
  2.   BC Primary Teachers Association: www.bcpta.ca
  3.  This year the BC Early Career Teachers PSA was formed: https://bcecta.wordpress.com/

Last year the BCTF launched a lesson data base called TeachBC

I've posted the "20 Student Brain Breaks" file on the Resources page under Teachers On Call - TOC Files (at the bottom of the page).  I've also added a page that I think might be helpful for developing an attitude towards students making errors and a couple of Math files (a game and an instructional explanation) that would be helpful to a TOC (couldn't resist!).   Hope these are useful to you!
